The Oslo Residence

how can we retain individuality whilst paying heed to the prevailing design culture of the scandinavian region?

The Oslo Residence, the inaugural residence of a young Indian couple in Norway, beautifully marries contradictions. One partner’s affinity for minimalism is juxtaposed with the other’s love for vibrant colors. Taking inspiration from legendary and contemporary Scandinavian designers, the design also pays a respectful nod to the context – the Scandinavian setting, while also carrying a gentle undertone of the couple’s Indian heritage.

A Thonet chair, lovingly sourced from the second-hand market stands as a symbol of history and craftsmanship, residing in delightful eccentricity alongside contemporary pieces from modern Scandinavian designers. Sustainability and the art of transformation are at play, as old and new converge to create a unique and compelling tapestry.

Custom art from a Kochi-based artist, telling stories dear to the couple, accents the space, creating a sense of familiarity in this setting. The Oslo residence mirrors the couple’s youthful exuberance, a hint of eccentricity, and an homage to the two rich cultures they’ve embraced.
