LocalSthan

How might we make the local aspirational ?

LocalSthan,’  a digital platform aimed at curating rural immersions for educational and research purposes is a unique proposition that was backed with a grant by Saint-Gobain.

Our journey began with a deep interest in vernacular architecture and culture. We encountered a stark reality: traditional skills and practices were fading away, with local communities losing interest in their own rich heritage. This lack of aspiration stemmed from a perception that “local” was no longer relevant nor did it have any monetary incentive.

This gave birth to ‘LocalSthan’. The initiative involved addressing the loss of built heritage and cultural legacies in rural settings. Recognizing that mere physical preservation was not sufficient, we focused on revitalizing pride in local traditions and techniques using urban-rural knowledge transfer though the platform. Since over 65% of India’s 1.42 billion population lives in its far-flung villages, this project is particularly relevant as it can create enduring bonds between urban and rural areas, instilling pride in the rich heritage and cultural roots.

LocalSthan is not just about preserving the past; it is about building a resilient future for rural India.
