As climate awareness and concerns grows, so do the ‘Lurking Questions’.

In the heart of the Dubai Design District stands “Lurking Questions,” a physical representation of the slurry of questions we’re all thinking about but may not know the answers to.  A traveling & evolving art installation, Lurking Questions, grows & unveils a new form with each destination.

It is etched with crowd-sourced lurking questions, representing how we’re all grappling with the same concerns. Composed of interlocked panels made of recycled low density plastic packaging waste, the installation is designed, detailed and engineered such that it can be easily dismantled and flat packed into a suitcase enabling it to go from city to city.

Using lightweight, recycled material and innovation in the interlocking mechanism, the installation is intricately designed to withstand the harsh Dubai wind without the use of any fastening, anchoring or additional structural framework. Playing with the center of gravity and harmonious use of materials, the entire structure is weighed down using self weight and gravity with a carefully crafted detail where metal pipes seamlessly slide onto the base acting as an anchor for the entire structure.

As sunlight falls on the reflective surface of the recycled waste panels, the questions get amplified by the play of light and shadow, encouraging visitors to pause and reflect, akin to an oasis in a desert.

Designed to stimulate the curiosity of designers, reflective practitioners, and visitors, ‘Lurking Questions’ is a medium for engagement, promoting reflection on the climate choices we make. It serves as a humble nudge for reflection on our climate choices, gently encouraging conversations about climate change and fostering a sense of hope for collective action within the community as was aptly seen at the Dubai Design Week where there was interaction and engagement from a global audience.
